The Dutch capital is of course recognisable by its canals, old mansions and the countless bikes parked everywhere against the fences of canal bridges. However, Amsterdam still has many undiscovered gems that are also definitely worth a visit! Amsterdam has several well-known sights that cannot be missed during your visit to the city. However, behind these tourist attractions there are many places that the average visitor will not know about. The Red Light District, for instance, does not immediately bring to mind beautiful buildings with cosy coffee bars. Yet there are! In the small side streets of the larger and busier streets, for instance, you will find the Oude Kerk, home to De Koffieschenkerij. Here you can go for breakfast, coffee and sweets or a delicious soup, both inside and outside on the garden terrace!

In the city centre, you are surrounded by beautiful historic canal houses. What you might not expect is what is hidden behind the doors of such a building. On the Oudezijds Voorburgwal, in a 17th-century canal house, you will find Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder and its museum. This Catholic secret church, as the name suggests, is located in the attic of a house and is well worth a visit. As a Protestant city council was in power in Amsterdam in 1663, this Catholic church was built in secret so that Catholics could celebrate their masses at home. On Sundays, worship services still take place here, a unique experience to attend!

A visit to Amsterdam naturally includes a stroll through the Vondelpark. This famous park hides - literally - a special place: the Vondelbunker. Built in 1947 to protect Amsterdam citizens from atomic bombs, it now serves as a cultural centre. It's very nice to walk in and look around!

You can also find nature in a big city like Amsterdam! Visit the Rijksmuseum gardens, for example! These beautiful sculpture gardens extend art from the inside to the outside, making it a feast for the eyes. Stroll among the different types of plants and flowers along the sculptures and, when the weather is nice, take a little break to enjoy both nature and art on a bench! In Amsterdam Nieuw-West, you will find even more beautiful green spots! If you're looking for a tasty and healthy snack to enjoy when you return to your motorhome in the evening, be sure to visit the Pluktuin van West. Here you can pick the most delicious fruits yourself! Not finished picking yet? At the flower picking garden Lokale Bloemetjes you can put together your own bouquet of flowers, great for brightening up your motorhome!

The combination of young, old and everything in between in one city is one of the things that makes Amsterdam so beautiful. The many students give the historical city a young touch, but there is no turning away from Amsterdam's old traditions. Therefore, get to know the ‘VrijMiBo’, a student term that means nothing more than Friday Afternoon Drink, something the traditional Amsterdammer is not averse to. After all, what better way to kick off the weekend - or any other day - than with a snack and a nice drink on a terrace?!

In every corner of the city you will come across cosy bars. De Pijp is one of Amsterdam's oldest districts and has something for everyone! You will find cool cocktail bars, old-fashioned pubs and everything in between! In the popular Jordaan neighbourhood, you will meet the real Amsterdammers in authentic ‘brown cafés’, where beers and ‘bitterballen’ (croquette-balls) are flying over the bar. If you are looking for a slightly quieter spot, visit the NDSM-Werf in the northern area of Amsterdam. Here you will meet the industrial history of the city, which is also reflected in the cool and creative look of the many cosy bars you can find here!
