The best motorhome destinations in Europe in May!

The month of May marks the beginning of summery days. Although it can still be a bit chilly at times, shorts-weather can often be enjoyed by the end of the month! The start of the sunny period should of course be celebrated! Festivals of all types, dimensions and themes are therefore organised in various places in Europe. Whether you want to enjoy French cuisine, are a lover of Spanish flower art or wish to experience British cultural art, read on to find out which destinations you should not miss in May!

Culinary delights in France

Enjoy culinary delights at Vitiloire in the French city of Tours on the last weekend of May. Located in the centre of the Val de Loire, Tours hosts nearly 160 exhibitors, winemakers and artisans during the festival. The highlight of the festival for the more than 35,000 visitors is the tasting of wines from the Loire Valley. The vineyards in this valley stretch for over 800 kilometres and the range of wine colours and flavours is therefore wide. So, there is something for everyone! For €6, you can buy a tasting glass, which you can fill at the numerous stalls on the festival site. Also make sure to bring a tasting book so you can note down which wines you want to take home! Are you still not so sure about your tasting skills? Various workshops and wine tastings will be organised during Vitiloire, where you can refresh your wine knowledge. Learn to look, smell and taste like a pro! A delicious wine should be accompanied by appropriate local snacks, which will be prepared at the festival by top Loire chefs. You can find a seat in the gastronomic centre of the festival terrain or have a picnic on the grass. Vitiloire stands for cosiness, fine wines and extensive local specialities. For the culinary connoisseurs (to be), you are in for a treat!

Vitoloire is taking place on the 25th and 26th of May 2024. With your motorhome, you can stay close to Tours at motorhome stopover Parking relais du Lac. Sante!

Flower art festival in Spain

What once began as a relatively small flower art competition, has now grown into a major international festival with visitors from all over the world. Since the very first edition in 1954, which was organised in Girona's Municipal Hall, the festival has grown - literally - out of the building and now covers the entire city. Under the name Temps de Flors, the flower art festival is Girona's biggest international festival. Walking through the city, you will pass several locations where artworks are displayed, in all shapes, sizes and colours. The sprawling artworks across the city are what make the Girona Flower Festival so special: there is no central point, but the festival takes place all over the city. Be sure not to forget to occasionally walk into a secluded alley or look up into the narrow streets, as the floral artworks can be on display in the most unusual and unexpected places. For the biggest spectacle of the festival, you have to be at Girona Cathedral. The steps of this cathedral are covered with beautiful floral works of art during the Girona Flower Festival, and will leave you in definite amazement!

The Girona Flower Festival is taking place from 11th until 19th of May 2024. In Girona, you can stay at motorhome stopover Parking Vayreda Autocaravanas, or travel to the nearby Quart where you can spend the night at motorhome stopover Quart. ¡Diviértete!

Art-watching in Brighton

In the south of the UK you will find the city of Brighton. Besides being a popular seaside town, it is also home to the annual Brighton Festival. Aiming to encourage visitors to look at art with new eyes, the Brighton Festival has been a great success since 1968. What makes the festival so special is the wide variety of types of art, which are presented at different venues across the city. There are concerts, performances and parades, but also "silent" art such as exhibitions, workshops and sculpture and painting. In short: something for all interests! Some art displays are temporary, while others take place throughout the festival. Depending on the date you visit the Brighton Festival, you can choose whether or not to buy a ticket for a particular activity. There are also free exhibitions to visit. If you are interested in art in its broadest sense and enjoy getting together with others to learn from and about each other, a visit to the Brighton Festival is definitely worthwhile if you are in the UK in May. A world will open up for you.

The Brighton Festival is taking place from 4th until 26th of May 2024. Stay the night close to Brighton at motorhome stopover West Side Promenade in New Haven or at Mill Road Car Park in Arundel. Enjoy!
