The best motorhome destinations in Europe in January!

Just a little longer and it's 2024! A new year with good intentions and lots of new motorhome destinations to discover! Let's start with our resolution: get the motorhome out of storage! Are you also looking forward to getting out and about with your motorhome? Then read on quickly, because in this blog we will take you to three motorhome destinations worth visiting in January!

Visit one of Belgium's most charming towns

Belgium has many charming towns like Leuven, Ghent and Mechelen, but have you heard of Lier? This small town is about a 20-minute drive from Antwerp and has something for everyone.

If you visit Lier, you must have seen the big crowd-puller the Zimmer Tower. This little tower (as it is not very big) has a striking clockwork and is also called the Jubilee Clock. What makes this clock so special is that you need to know a bit about astronomy! It shows the position of the moon, the time of year and the days of the week.

Don't want to miss a single sight of this charming town? Then choose to walk the Timmermanspad. With this signposted city walk, you will discover, among other things, the beguinage and the city forts.

Of course, Lier's regional products should not be missing during your visit! Treat yourself to one of the oldest pastries in the province of Antwerp; the Liers Vlaaike. This is a spicy pastry made with candy syrup. Or enjoy a Den Blèèèter. A what?! I hear you thinking. This is a craft gold beer inspired by the nickname 'Schapekoppen' of the people of Liers. Good thinking anyway!?

If you want to spend the night with your motorhome in Lier, you can park it for free at Parking De Mol.

Tip: From Lier you can also easily reach the cities of Antwerp and visit Mechelen.

Skiing in France

If you are a lover of wintersports, then Les Portes du Soleil in France is the perfect destination for you in January! This vast ski resort, located on the French-Swiss border, not only offers fantastic slopes, but also cosy villages where you will find cosy shops with local delicacies, among other things.

Les Portes du Soleil is known for its breathtaking mountain scenery, the vastness of its ski area and is also child-friendly. With over 650 kilometres of slopes spread across 12 villages, including Les Gets, Morzine, and Châtel, there is something for every level of skier (or snowboarder). An extra nice feature of this area is that thanks to its width, you can also easily ski from valley to valley or even from France to Switzerland.

Besides skiing, and of course, there are other activities you can do here. Perhaps one of the most unusual activity is that, with your skis on, you can do yoga along the Nyon slope in Morzine. Will you take on this challenge?

In Les Gets you will find the motorhome stopover Parking des Perrières. From here you can start skiing right away! Fond of cross-country skiing? Then park your motorhome at Parking du Giffre.

Spending winter in the Spanish sun

While the cold winter months have come to us, there is one place in Europe where it is good to be: the lovely Costa Blanca in Spain! Whether you are a seasoned motorhome owner or you are getting into your motorhome for the first time to spend the winter, the Costa Blanca has everything you need to enjoy the Spanish sun in the winter months.

The Costa Blanca, in the south-east of Spain, stretches over 200 kilometres of coastline, so the choice is vast when it comes to finding your perfect spot. Whether you like the liveliness of cities like Alicante and Villajoyosa, or prefer the tranquillity of small villages like Altea and Moraire, there is something for every motorhome enthusiast.

As a beach lover, you must of course visit one of the Costa Blanca's most beautiful coves. Close to the town of Jávea you will find Cala La Grandella. Here you will find beautiful clear blue water and green rocks. If you like to do something active, we recommend you go kayaking here!

Another thing we think you shouldn't miss when you go to the Costa Blanca is the town of Elche. This is located inland a half-hour drive from Alicante. This town is known for its many palm trees. As such, you will find Europe's largest palm tree park with more than 200,000 palm trees. The park was created by the Moors in the 10th century to produce dates and figs. So in Elche, be sure to try the local date products, such as date syrup or a date cake. End your visit to the city by climbing the Torre de Basílica. After 170 steps up a narrow staircase, you will have a panoramic view of the city and, of course, the palm trees.

Tip: If you plan to take your motorhome to the Costa Blanca in the winter months, bear in mind that it can be very busy. Want to be assured of a place? Then make sure you book in advance at a motorhome stopover. ¡Buen viaje!
