Discover the Veluwe Hanseatic Cities with your motorhome
The Veluwe, a picturesque region in the heart of the Netherlands, is home to several beautiful Hanseatic towns steeped in history and charm. Elburg, Harderwijk, Putten and Hattem form a cluster of towns that were once part of the powerful Hanseatic League, a medieval trading network that flourished between the 12th and 17th centuries. During the Hanseatic 2023, these Hanseatic towns will be dedicated to the centuries-old Hanseatic ideology, so as far as we are concerned, it is really worth a visit!
Visit the historic fortified town of Elburg
Elburg, situated on the Veluwe lake, is known for its well-preserved medieval charm. The town is surrounded by imposing city walls and canals. The historic centre has narrow cosy streets, old churches, and impressive city gates. Discover the old defence tower the Vischpoort, where you can enjoy the view over Elburg from the balcony and visit the City Museum to learn more about Elburg's rich history! About 2 kilometres from Elburg, you can spend the night with your motorhome at the free motorhome stopover Dronten.
Harderwijk: port city with maritime heritage
Located at the edge of the Veluwe and on the Veluwe Lake, you will find Harderwijk. This city has a rich maritime history. Once a thriving port city, you'll still find its historic buildings such as the Vischpoort and Smeepoort. Want to get a breath of fresh air on a beach? This Hanseatic city offers that too! So, there is plenty to do here, discover this Hanseatic city at your convenience.
If you visit Harderwijk, you will find several places to park your motorhome: P2 Lelykade, P Parkweg and P8 Zonneweide
Enjoy the natural beauty in Putten
Nestled among forests and moorlands, Putten offers an escape from the hustle and bustle. Besides historical sights such as the Oude Kerk and Landgoed Staverden, motorhomers can enjoy the natural splendour of the area! For example, visit the Speulder- en Sprielderbos, one of the most beautiful and oldest forests in the Netherlands, or go to Landgoed Schovenhorst and climb the forest tower there for a magnificent view of the Veluwe and even Amersfoort! In Putten on the Brinkstraat you will find a small, paved motorhome stopover where you can stay overnight with your motorhome.
History, nature, and culture can be found in Hattem!
Steeped in art and culture, on the banks of the river IJssel, you will find the Hanseatic city of Hattem. In this town you will find museums such as the Voerman Stadsmuseum, which displays the works of local artists, and the Bakkerijmuseum (Baker's Museum), where you can catch a glimpse of the artisanal baking tradition. The medieval city walls and the Dijkpoort (the only one in the Netherlands!) add a historical touch to the picturesque townscape. So be sure to get to know this beautiful Hanseatic city on foot.
If you want to spend the night in Hattem, you can do at Hattem's marina, IJsseldelta Marina Hattem. Here you have a beautiful view over the water!

Saint-Hubert: European Capital of Hunting and Nature in Belgium
Saint-Hubert, in the Belgian Ardennes, proudly bears the title of "European Capital of Hunting and Nature". The city full of history and surrounded by lush forests is therefore the perfect destination for nature lovers and hunting enthusiasts!
Make sure not to forget your hiking boots as you can take an enchanting winter walk through the 'Saint-Hubert Wildlife Park'! There is a good chance of encountering deer, roe deer or even wild boar during your walk! During your walk, stick to the park's rules and look out for signs indicating where restrictions apply due to hunting.
After this walk, the tempting opportunity awaits to enjoy a delicious game dish in one of Saint-Hubert's atmospheric restaurants. The game season still runs until 31 December!

Getting a breath of fresh air on the coast
Getting a breath of fresh air by the sea is always a good idea! You might not easily think of going to the coast of Zeeland in December, but even then, this province has a lot to offer you. Put on warm clothes and start your visit with a refreshing walk along the coast, breathe in the fresh sea air, listen to the rustling of the waves, and enjoy the beautiful view over the North Sea.
After this refreshing walk, warm up at one of Zeeland's beach pavilions, which are often only open on weekends. Take a seat in a nice spot, order a delicious cup of hot chocolate, and see how beautiful the coast can be in winter! Some pavilions even organize winter events.
Before heading back to your motorhome, finish the day at one of the cosy restaurants along Zeeland's coast, of course. Get to know Zeeland's cuisine, taste local fish dishes, and let your taste buds be pampered by the freshness of the sea!
In Zeeland, you will find excellent motorhome stopovers such as Camperpark 't Veerse meer in Wolphaartsdijk, Camperplaats Brouwersdam in Scharendijke and Camperplaats Zaetepolder in Yerseke.
