The best motorhome destinations in Europe in August!
August is the month when all of Europe celebrates the summer holidays. In many places, it can therefore be very busy, but that should not stop you from going out anyway! With good weather, lots of fun and plenty of events, there is also a lot to see and do in August. In this blog you can read where to go with your motorhome in the Netherlands, Italy and Finland and where to stay overnight!
Flying high in a hot-air balloon
Several hot-air balloon festivals are organised in the Netherlands every year during the summer months. In all shapes, sizes and colours, dozens of hot-air balloons fill the sky above Grave, Barneveld and Oldenzaal, among others. It is not only beautiful to see, but also a real experience to take a flight yourself! Dangling in a basket, you are blown to a height with magnificent views over the vast surroundings. After landing in the meadow, a traditional champagne toast is made to a safe flight. Even if you are not a fan of heights, it is great fun to experience a hot air balloon festival, because with air shows, (children's) activities and live music, you will also be well entertained on the ground. A snack and a drink to go with it, and the sunny summer day is complete!
The Balloon Festival Grave will take place on 9 and 10 August 2024, after which you can spend the night at the motorhome stopover Gemaal van Sasse/Kazematten. Ballonfiësta Barneveld and Twente Ballooning both take place from 21 to 24 August 2024, in the surrounding area you can park your motorhome at motorhome stopovers De Grote Glind and Toppark 't Hulsbeek respectively.
- During the Balloon Festival in Grave, you will see hot air balloons of all shapes, sizes and colours!
Find love (for music) in Verona
Forget romantic Paris, Italy's Verona is the ultimate city of love. This historical gem is the scenery of Shakespeare's love story Romeo and Juliet, which can still be seen in the city today. You can, for instance, visit Juliet's iconic balcony, under which Romeo declared his love for her, in the garden of her house. The story goes that if you touch the righthand breast of Juliet's statue, you will find the love of your life within a year. Romantic, is it not? This poetic atmosphere also hangs in other places in the city, because with a history dating back to Roman times, Verona is rich in idyllic buildings, bridges and piazzas. The city's largest square, Piazza Brà, is home to the Arena di Verona amphitheatre. As the little brother of the Colosseum in Rome, this arena is one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres and can seat more than 20,000 spectators. August is one of the months of the Verona Opera Festival, which features ballets and operas by musical masters such as Puccini, Verdi and Rossini. Not only for the music, but certainly for the atmosphere and experience, attending such a performance is highly recommended!
You can stay overnight in and near Verona at Area sosta camper Porta Palio, Agricamping Corte Finiletto or Area di sosta camper Europa.

Relaxing on the Finnish Lakes
Waking up in the morning with a view over the water, walking out of your motorhome and being able to take a refreshing dip straight away; who would not want that? In Finland, also known as the Land of a Thousand Lakes, it is possible in many places. Those who want to escape the crowds on the southern European waters in August, should visit the Finnish Lakes. This area stretches across the south-east of the country and, as the name suggests, is rich in water. In all shapes and sizes: lakes, meandering rivers and canals, winding between thousands of forested and hilly islands. No shortage of blue and green here! This enormous nature area is great for walks, but there is also plenty to do on and in the water. Another advantage of visiting Finland in August is the climate, because with a pleasant temperature of 22°C on average and long days due to the midsummer night sun, it is a lovely place to be. That's truly a holiday.
Park your motorhome in the nature at motorhome stopovers Parikkala, Sulkava or SaimaaHoliday Oravi.
- Wake up overlooking the water in Finland!
