Discover Tyrol on your next motorhome trip

Are you planning to travel to Austria with your motorhome? Then the Tirol region is highly recommended! Mountain range after mountain range follow one another, with an idyllic mountain lake in between. But apart from nature, the region also offers beautiful old cities such as Innsbruck. This makes it an ideal region for all motorhomers. We list the highlights of the Austrian state for you with the following tips.

Reutte

This attraction is only for the really daring, because on this bridge you float 110 metres above the ground! The Highline179 near Reutte connects Fort Claudia and the ruins of Ehrenberg. The castle ruins are about 700 years old. In the museum you can learn everything about the history of the castle. In addition, the annual 'Römer and Ritterspiele Ehrenberg' festival takes place here, where you can imagine yourself in a medieval atmosphere at the medieval market and during the knightly tournaments. Fort Claudia was strategically located and was therefore taken by the Bavarians in 1703, who occupied Ehrenberg. About 80 years later, it was closed down and was only inhabited for a short time. The castle was partially rebuilt and can still be admired today!

Kufstein

In Kufstein you will find an extraordinary open-air organ. The organ was built in memory of the fallen dead in the First World War. Today, the organ also commemorates all the other conflicts in the world. In addition, it is the world's largest open-air organ. At noon, you can hear a beautiful chime playing that can be heard in the entire area! The organ can be admired in the fortress that rises above the city. The Panoramabahn drops you off right outside the door. There is also a museum here where you can learn all about the local history. In the summer, you will also see plenty of water sports enthusiasts passing by. You can choose to go along with a boat or to hire one yourself. If you prefer to explore the area on foot, there are also several routes for all levels - in total some 500 kilometres. Both in summer and winter, the area is easily accessible for a pleasant walk. Cyclists will also get their money's worth here: there are 250 kilometres of cycling and mountain biking trails. The area around Pertisau is also known for its stone oil production. In the Erlebniszentrum Tiroler Steinöl (Erlebnis Centre for Mineral Oil), you can learn everything about how this raw material is extracted and processed. You will also find it in the care products which are sold in the area.

Innsbruck

Innsbruck is perfect to explore on foot. During a walk you will come across the brightly coloured houses. A fun fact: the colour of the houses used to tell you which profession the inhabitants practised! Sights to see during your visit with the camper include the Hofkirche, a beautiful tomb where Emperor Maximilian was to be buried. In the end, he was buried in his home town Wiener Neustadt. The grave is decorated with many bronze statues and marble, so it looks very impressive! A nice place to visit is Mundig, a bakery where it seems like you step into a time machine when you walk through the door. It is highly recommended to get some goodies here for the camper! The rest of the city has plenty of beautiful historical sights, including the Glockenmuseum and the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum where you can learn everything about the history of Tyrol.
