The best tips for your motorhome-trip in Spain

Spain is the perfect motorhome destination for those who love sun, sea and sand. But that's not the only thing you can do in this beautiful country! You'll also find plenty of Gaudí art, adventure on the north coast and beautiful Moorish sights in the south of the country. These are the best tips for your next motorhome tour in Spain!

Gaudí in Barcelona

The famous architect Antoni Gaudí has left several traces in Barcelona. And luckily so, because now we can enjoy all the splendour! Among the most famous sights are the Sagrada Familia and Park Güell. The construction of the Sagrada Familia started in 1882 and is still going on. The expected completion date is in 2026. Fortunately you can already visit the building to admire the special design of the outside and inside. When completed, it will be the largest church in the world. Park Guëll is also a special attraction. This city park is bursting with mosaics and special designs by Gaudí. A real must-see for your motorhome-trip in Spain!

Apart from these two famous Gaudí sights, there is much more of his work to be admired. The apartment complex Casa Mila has a special design. It looks a bit like a stone quarry and therefore certainly does not look like an average apartment complex! Casa Vicens is also a building full of colour, you can find it in the district Gràcia. This was the first important building designed by Gaudí. Finally, the less famous Casa Calvet was designed by Gaudí. Today it is a restaurant. If you want to admire the building from the inside, you have to have a bite to eat or drink in the restaurant!

Salvador Dalí is also a famous Spanish artist. You'll discover all about him on Dalí's Spanish route, a short 100-kilometers motorhome route.

The unspoilt north coast

The Spanish north coast may not be as well known as the sunny south coast, but that does not make it any less beautiful! In this part of the country you will find several gems. The city of Bilbao, for example, is booming. Here, you will find the world-famous Guggenheim Museum, among other things. You can admire works by Picasso and Warhol, but also the famous large spider Maman and a large dog made entirely of flowers. Furthermore, the capital of Cantabria, Santander, is highly recommended. Santander is a real coastal city. You can enjoy lazing on the beach and you can visit the nearby village of Santillana del Mar. Here, you will find the Altamira Cave, a cave with special prehistoric rock drawings!

If you prefer to explore nature during your motorhome-trip through Spain, then the Picos de Europa is highly recommended. This is a true paradise for hikers! In this nature reserve you can find trails for every level of experience. There are many wild animals living in the area, so you may encounter mountain goats, wolves and bears, among others! After your hike, you can cool off with a dip in one of the many mountain lakes.

The most beautiful Moorish sights

Spain has long been in the hands of the Moors, also known as the former Islamic population in Spain. Not surprisingly, there are several impressive Moorish sights! One of the most famous Moorish sights is the Alhambra in Granada, an impressive medieval palace. You can admire several halls with the most beautiful Islamic elements.

In Seville, you will also find the Royal Palace of Seville. This palace was demolished in the past, but today you can still admire a replica. During visits to Seville, the Spanish royal family still stays in the palace. These are just two of the most beautiful and famous Moorish sights in Spain. There are many more to admire on your motorhome tour, including the Palacio de Viana in Cordoba, a magnificent palace, and the Torre del Oro in Seville. The latter was part of the city's former ramparts. Most Moorish sights are in Andalusia, but you'll also find various Moorish elements throughout the rest of Spain on your motorhome tour.
