Fall in love with undiscovered Salzburg!
The city of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, The Sound of Music and Baroque architecture: that's Salzburg. This Austrian city is still relatively undiscovered, but has a lot to offer. Would you like to go on a unique city break? Then read on!
Stroll through Salzburg's truly old Altstadt
Although Salzburg's history goes back to prehistoric times, the Baroque period of the 16th and 17th centuries was one of the most important eras for the city. In 1756, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was cradled here and not long after, Salzburg was on the musical map. Mozart moved away from his hometown, but his name as one of classical music's most influential legends has always survived in Salzburg. Thus, Mozartplatz is considered the city's most beautiful square and Mozart's birthplace in Getreidegasse is still an attraction. In this busy but authentic street, also pay attention to the adjacent narrow alleys, which lead you to beautiful quiet courtyards!
Salzburg Cathedral is also a real eye-catcher among the historic Baroque buildings in the old town. Built in 774, the cathedral has been targeted by bombing several times and has already been re-consecrated twice after being rebuilt. As the city's most famous and imposing church, the Dom should definitely be on your Salzburg bucket list, although the many other smaller churches are also recommended!

Beyond the lines of the Altstadt
Around Salzburg's old town, modernity comes alive. For example, visit the Festung Hohensalzburg, a stone castle on top of the Festungsberg. Excellent above the city, you have a great view of Salzburg's old town from this castle. There is a cable car going up, but of course you can also walk there yourself!
Are you interested in musicals and films? Then visit Schloss Mirabell and the Mirabellgarten. The imposing palace reflects the prosperity of the 16th and 17th centuries and in the gardens you will wander through the set of The Sound of Music. In fact, the legendary ‘Do-Re-Mi’ scene was filmed here! The Eisriesenwelt, the largest ice cave in the world, also has a place in the fil. Located about forty kilometres outside the city, this cave contains ice formations that are sometimes tens of metres high. An impressive – and cool – excursion during your visit to Salzburg!

- The Mirabellgarten is a must-see when in Salzburg!
Taste the Austrian cuisine
You only really get to know a city when you taste its flavour. As the beer capital of Austria, a fresh beer from one of the ten Salzburg brewers is a must. Take a seat in a cosy Biergarten in fine weather, or settle down in an authentic café to enjoy a refreshing thirst-quencher.
Salzburg is also the place to be for coffee! The Austrians are known to turn their coffee into a ‘moment’ and often enjoy it combined with a piece of cake. Order a coffee in one of the many coffee houses and also taste the sweet Salzburg specialities: the praline-pistachio Mozartkugeln chocolates, a piece of Salzburger Nockerl or the pancake-like Kaiserschmarrn.
Want to experience a unique evening back in time? Then visit one of the Mozart Dinner Concerts. While enjoying an 18th-century dinner in the Baroque Hall of St Peter's Monastery, you will enjoy Mozart's classical music and immerse yourself in Salzburg's history!
