To the Oktoberfest with your motorhome!
It might still seem far away, but the Oktoberfest already starts on the 16th of September! This German folk festival is known as the biggest beer festival of the world and is celebrated by thousands of people all over the world yearly. The original Oktoberfest is held in Munich, of course, but did you know that there are many more places where you can celebrate Oktoberfest? Take your motorhome out and explore the European Oktoberfest!
Don't drink and drive! Make sure you take your bikes with you and park your motorhome at the motorhome stopovers mentioned in this article, close to the breweries.
The Netherlands
There are many different Oktoberfests to be found scattered across the Netherlands. The biggest Oktoberfest is located in Sittard. That this Dutch city lies close to the German border, will quickly become clear: the Oktoberfest in Sittard is really comparable with its German colleagues. It comes as no surprise that many Germans travel to Sittard every year to raise a toast on this grand Oktoberfest.
Oktoberfest Sittard lasts for 6 days and will take place from the 13th until the 18th of October, 2023. Do you want to stay close to the Oktoberfest with your motorhome? Park your motorhome at De Nieuwe Hateboer. This motorhome stopover lies at a small distance from the city, which brings you to the party terrain in a matter of seconds!
You can also go to the Oktoberfest in Nijmegen. This is no ordinary Oktoberfest, though, but the one and only "Foute Oktoberfest" - which roughly translates to "trashy Oktoberfest". In 2023, it will take place on the 7th of October and there will be many artists who'll travel to the Goffertpark in Nijmegen to celebrate the German folk festival. You can park your motorhome in Nijmegen at Camperplaats Malden.
- The Oktoberfest in Sittard is the biggest one of the Netherlands!
Belgium
That Belgium has a beer culture is evident. This beer culture becomes extra evident during the fun Oktoberfests that are held all throughout the country. The biggest Oktoberfest of Belgium is held in Antwerp. Before you leave to the Waagnatie, an events location in Antwerpen, you have to check if you didn't forget your lederhosen and dirndl since this Oktoberfest is one to never forget! You can spend the night close to the city centre at Camperpark Vogelzang.
On the 3th and 4th of November 2023 another big Oktoberfest takes place in Hoogstraten, the Oktoberfestival. This year is the 5th edition of the party, and it looks like it's going to be a great festival! Park your motorhome just outside of Hoogstraten, at Het Boerenijsje, to stay close to the party.
- During the Oktoberfest you cannot miss out on traditional German food!
United Kingdom
The Brits also know how to party: there are some amazing beer festivals in various places in the United Kingdom! For example, you can toast along with over 50,000 other visitors in London. This year, Oktoberfest will take place here at 3 different locations in the city, spread out over 4 weekends. On the weekend of 26 to 28 October, the Oktoberfest is extra special, as the German folk festival will be combined with Halloween. This edition is particularly fun AND spooky! There are no motorhome stopover to be found near London, but you can still stay overnight in a motorhome stopover a bit outside the city, at Maidstone Services.
On 13 and 14 October, Manchester hosts Oktoberfest. The Oktoberfest has a real German atmosphere, with great beer, typical German food and the famous long beer tables. Spend the night just outside the city centre at The Hawthorn.
- In London the Oktoberfest is celebrated at 3 different locations!
Germany
The king of the Oktoberfest is, of course, Germany! Do you want to go to the real deal in Munich? Then you can spend the night at the one and only Oktoberfest-Camping, this motorhome stopover is only opened during Oktoberfest and is obviously the place to be during the festival. The Oktoberfest is also well-celebrated in Cologne. During three weeks, 3500 party people come around daily to raise a toast. To stay close to Cologne, you can park your motorhome at Reisemobilhafen Köln.
The last recommendation in Germany is the Oktoberfest in Stuttgart. Besides Munich, this is the biggest Oktoberfest in Germany and there are just that little bit less tourists strolling around. The Oktoberfest in Stuttgart is a lot different from the one in Munich, though: whereas Munich has rules for the amount of traditional music that has to be played, Stuttgart plays modern music on the alpine horn as well as hits on the electric guitar. Moreover, the Stuttgart Beer Festival features big laser productions and bars with not only traditional beers but also loads of other alcoholic drinks. So, this festival is a bit more hip, and wild, than the traditional Oktoberfest in Munich. To go to this modern Oktoberfest, you can park your motorhome at Campingplatz Stuttgart.
- For the real Oktoberfest experience you obviously go to Munich.
Do you love Germany, but do you not want to go to the Oktoberfest? No worries! Germany has a lot more to offer than just beers and folk music. For example, you could go on a motorhome trip to the Moselle, or go discover free motorhome stopovers in Germany! Viel Spaß!
