Mureck is a city located in the southern area of Austria, close to the border with Slovenia. It finds its home in the second largest riparian woodland area of Austria, where motorhome owners can settle and relax completely. The area is a paradise for real hiking enthusiasts, as it offers a wide range of hiking trails. There are multiple flat trails, but the ones seeking more adventure can also find activities that go above sea-level! The Murturm, for instance, is open to be climbed in the spring and summer. This tower, with a height of 28 meters, offers a beautiful view over the wooded area and the Mur river. The tower also is an attraction of itself; its modern architecture makes it a special point in the wide and open area of nature. Make sure not to forget your photo camera, as this point offers the best bird’s-eye view for you to take pictures in. To take a closer look at the Mur river, you can walk along the river which forms the border between Austria and Slovenia. There is no doubt that you can relax and enjoy yourself at its finest in this area!

Mureck is not a very large city, however that is what charms this town. Make sure to take a walk in the city centre, where you can find the medieval town hall. You can also visit the library, in which a small museum about history of the world of film and sound is located on the first floor. You will go back in time, and are likely to recognise interesting devices that you may have had at home too, or learn more about other devices used in films and sounds. Certainly a nice activity to undertake during your visit to Mureck. 

In the area of Mureck, you can also visit the Murecker Schiffsmühle; one of the last floating ship’s mills in central Europe and truly a special place to see. The Murecker Schiffsmühle is located close to the motorhome stopover and also has a restaurant where you can enjoy the Austrian cuisine and try typical delicacies from the Stiermarken area. Do notice that the Murecker Schiffsmühle is closed during the winter months, due to the weather circumstances.

Extra tips: in 10 minutes you can drive from Mureck to Schloss Brunnsee, a beautiful castle surrounded by hiking trails. If you visit Mureck in September, make sure to attend the Murecker Stadtfest, a highly recommended festival to visit when you’re in the area around that time!

If you have brought bikes on your motorhome, there are various nice cycle routes to find in the area around Mureck. The Murradweg is a particular recommendation, as it covers 340 kilometres and also passes Mureck! The route originally starts at the source of Mura and finishes at the tri-border between Austria, Slovenia and Hungary. It is a beautiful cycle route along multiple rivers in the Alps and passes through various culinary destinations with regional delicacies. You can also choose to cycle only part of the route, along the Mur river, when you’re in Mureck.

Perhaps the most important aspect of a motorhome-trip: where can I stay overnight with my motorhome? Just outside the centre of Mureck, you can find the Reisemobillstellplatz Mureck. This motorhome stopover is the best place to overnight when you want to discover Mureck and its surrounding area. The motorhome stopover is spacious and offers all the necessary facilities. Every site has power supplies and the sites are large, which makes driving in and out of the site easier. The motorhome stopover offers a station to load and unload, which can be used by five motorhomes at the same time. You will therefore not have to wait too long, and can soon hit the road again. The stopover further facilitates toilets and showers in a separate building, for motorhomes without their own sanitary facilities. There is nothing missing from this nice motorhome stopover

Additionally, you can find an outdoor swimming pool next to the motorhome stopover, which is a good place to relax during the summer months. The water in the pool is even heated by solar panels, making the accommodation more sustainable. The stopover is therefore also very suitable to visit when you’re on holiday with children!
