Tavira: the Venice of the Algarve

We start this motorhome trip some 20 kilometers from the Spanish border in the town of Tavira. This charming town is also called the Venice of the Algarve. Most probably this is due to the wide river that flows through the center. Over this river is the Ponte Romana built. During a visit to this city you can not ignore this bridge. This Roman bridge connects the two parts of the city with each other. Furthermore, Tavira is known for its many churches. You should count no less than 37! A church you should definitely not skip is Igreja de Santa Maria do Castelo. This is the main church of the city. Besides the Igreja de Santa Maria do Castelo you will also find the castle of Tavira. From here you have a panoramic view over the city and the beautiful sea.

About 2 kilometers from the center you will find Motorhome Park Tavira. Here you can stay during your first stop in the Algarve!

The village is also known for its special BBQ restaurants. Throughout the village you see these barbecues with fresh fish. Exploring culture in the oldest town of the Algarve

For our next stop, we take the motorhome a little way inland. Here you will find the oldest town of the Algarve, Silves. In the past this was the capital of the Algarve. Once you drive in the direction of the town, you will see an iconic castle. This castle called Castelo dos Mouros is built on the highest point of the town. Castelo dos Mouros is located in this spot for a reason. In the past, the Moors ruled over Silves and from this point they could keep a close eye on the surroundings against intruders. Castelo dos Mouros therefore literally means the castle of the Moors. Opposite this castle you will be surprised by another historical sight. Here is namely Sé Cathedral. In the time of the Moors this was a mosque. Later Gothic and Baroque elements were added. In the center of Silves you will find many colorful houses and nice terraces. Do not forget to order some wine at one of these terraces. The surroundings of Silves are perfect for growing wine!

In Silves you have several accommodation options. Place your motorhome at Motorhome park Parque Ribeirinho de Silves, Algarve Motorhome Park Silves or Motorhome park Parque do Castelo.

The name Carvoeiro means hamlet where fishermen live. It is therefore a real fishing village with colorful boats. The special thing about this village is that for the most part it is located on a huge steep rock. There is also a path along the coast. Walk the path and enjoy the beautiful view. From the coast you are within a few steps in the center. Here you will find the village square, where in the summer there is always something to do. From music performances to real dance shows.
