6x staying the night on the Danish coast!

Anyone thinking of a beach holiday will probably drive towards southern Europe. Mediterranean life is certainly lovely, but temperatures shoot up in summer and it can get incredibly hot. That is why we introduce you to the cooler alternative to the classic beach holiday: the coolcation. Summer holidays in northern Europe, where temperatures are around a pleasant 25°C. Still the old familiar ‘sun, sea, sand’, but in a cooler swimsuit! In this article, find out which six beautiful beaches in Denmark you can spend your holidays on and where to stay!

Søndervig Beach

The town of Søndervig is located halfway up Denmark's west coast and borders both the North Sea and the Ringkøbing fjord. The combination of sea and fjord makes it a unique location for a beach holiday, and this has not gone unnoticed among the Danes themselves. However, the beauty of Søndervig beach does not detract from its popularity, because with a wide sandy beach and an extensive dune area on the seaward side, you can swim, sunbathe and walk here. On the other side of the dunes, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Ringkøbing fjord!

Spend the night in Ringkøbing at Stellplatz Søndervig or motorhome stopover Lystbadenhavn.

Blåvand Beach

At Denmark's westernmost point stands the Blåvandshuk Fyr lighthouse and the surrounding beach is very popular with families. The sandy beach stretches for dozens of kilometres and is completely car-free. Plenty of space for the kids to let off steam! The North Sea in this part of Denmark is known for its calm water and low waves, ideal conditions for swimming. Are you travelling with small children? Then this beach is also very nice, as the shallow bottom runs far into the sea, so even small children can play in the water.

Near the beach in Blåvand, stay at Vejers Familicamping.

Thorup Beach

Fishing boats on dry land is usually not a good sign, but in Thorup it is! Here the fishing boats come sailing onto the beach after a day at sea in the old-fashioned way. Immerse yourself in the life of Danish fishermen and at the same time visit their workplace: the beach and the sea. For the full experience, sample the taste of northern Denmark at its best at Thorupstrand Fiskehus, where lunch is - how could it be otherwise - prepared with fresh fish. Fresh is really fresh here. So, off to Thorup.

At motorhome stopover Niels Balle in Fjerritslev you stay close to Thorup Strand.

Palmestranden

Forget Hawaii, Miami and Havana, because there are palm trees in Scandinavia too! The world's northernmost palm beach is located near Frederikshavn and takes you to exotic spheres, though well above the equator. Here you will discover Danish Zen: a relaxed approach to life. Do things not go as planned? Then say ‘pyt’ and focus on moments and experiences that really matter. Take a yoga class on the beach, play a game of beach volleyball or light up the barbecue and unwind. With this attitude, it is not without reason that the Danes are one of the happiest populations in the world.

Right next to Palmestranden, spend the night at motorhome stopover Rønnerhavnen, or a village further away at Strandby havn.

Saksild Beach

Saksild beach is one of the most child-friendly in Denmark. For families with children, it is therefore the ideal destination! The seawater is clear and clean and the white sand wonderfully soft underfoot. With facilities such as toilets, a lifeguard tower, kiosks where you can get an ice cream and several restaurants, Saksild beach is a great place to have a good time. Are you out and about with small children or do you have difficulty walking yourself? A paved path also makes part of the beach accessible for wheelchairs and prams!

Near Saksild beach, park your motorhome at HYGGE Strand Camping or Norsminde havn in Odder. Would you like to combine your beach holiday with a city visit? Aarhus is Denmark's second largest city after Copenhagen and is close to Saksild beach. In nearby Egå, stay at Egå Marina.

Kerteminde Nordstrand

In the northeast of the island of Funen is Kerteminde Nordstrand. This beach is especially known and loved for its liveliness and cosy atmosphere. With a large and fine beach, beach volleyball courts and a mini-golf course, there is always something to enjoy. In addition, the surroundings are perfect for a nice walk or bike ride. For example, visit the northernmost point of the Hindsholm peninsula, Fyns Hoved, for a beautiful panoramic view of the sea!

Spend the night at motorhome stopover Kerteminde Marina or on the Hindsholm peninsula at Camp Hverringe.
