3x hiking from the motorhome stopover in Austria!
In Austria, the country of mountains, there is no end to hiking! With hundreds of kilometres of marked hiking trails through high mountains, over hills and past lovely villages, this is not surprising. There are great walks for all interests, levels and ages. Put on your hiking shoes and read on quickly to discover where your next motorhome destination in Austria might be!
Tscheppaschlucht, Carinthia
In the gorge of the Tscheppaschlucht, in southern Austria's Carinthia, water is the leading element. Here you will experience the power of water in an impressive and at the same time beautiful way! Walking along the path, which is partly equipped with bridges, ladders and stairs, you make your way through the gorge. Soft streams flow through the deep canyons, which turn into rugged waterfalls as the metres progress. The absolute highlight of the hike is the Tschaukofall. This waterfall clatters down rigorously, but at the bottom the water is crystal clear. In a nutshell: you can be surprised from all sides. The hike through the Tscheppaschlucht is beautiful, but make sure you wear sturdy hiking boots and are not afraid of heights! Would you like to unwind after the hike? The Reßnig See is a great place to hang out, to have a picnic, watch the sun set between the mountains or take a refreshing dip when the weather is nice!
Spend the night among Carinthia's mountains at Messeparkplatz Schloß Ferlach.

Lünersee, Vorarlberg
The Lünersee was once one of the largest natural mountain lakes in the eastern Alps and, with its location at 1970 metres above sea level, also one of the highest. Families with small children as well as adventurers who are not afraid of the heights can have a great time here. In about six kilometres, you walk around the lake on a flat path, which takes you to beautiful viewpoints. Even (little) children can take this route and make friends along the way with the mountain goats that live near the lake! Do you enjoy something more challenging? Then the hike to the top of the Schesaplana is a must! From the Lünersee mountain station, you hike to a height of 2965 metres, where you will be rewarded with 360° panoramic views on the border with Switzerland. Have you had enough hiking for a while? In the Lünersee you can also cast your fishing rod! A special fishing experience at such a height and you might even catch something nice!
Elsewhere in Vorarlberg, spend the night in Dornbrin at Stellplatz Mathis.
- Enjoy the beautiful views you have during a hike around Lünersee!
Kalkalpen National Park, Upper Austria
‘A sea of forests’ is how Kalkalpen National Park is described. This nature reserve has remained almost completely untouched: a rich flora and fauna makes you feel really close to nature here. With small children, who are occasionally allowed to rest in the pram, hiking on the Blumaueralm is great fun! Between flowers in all colours, shapes and sizes, you hike through the countryside to several cosy mountain huts. If you are looking for some more altitude metres, you should take the hike to the Trämpl Gipfel. From the Ebenforstalm, you climb a few hundred metres, until you reach the cross at the top of the mountain and are treated to stunning views. Do you want to challenge yourself physically or set out on foot for several days? Straight through Kalkalpen National Park, the long-distance Lynx Trail takes you through the tracks of the lynx in 11 stages and 200 kilometres. Although this feline does not show itself easily, the Lynx Trail does not carry its name without reason.
Around the Kalkalpen National Park, you can stay overnight at Parkplatz Klauser Stausee in Sankt Pankraz or in Hollenstein an der Ybbs at motorhome stopover Der Wentsteinhammer or at Gasthof Staudach.
- Take a walk through the still almost completely untouched nature!
